Miss Himalaya Pageant 2015 is set to be held from 3 to 4 October in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh. With an aim to provide platform for young women from the entire Himalayan region to promote its culture, preserve its environment, and foster friendship among the Himalayan people, the Miss Himalaya Pageant started in October 2012 by Lobsang Wangyal Productions, who is also instrumental in running the Miss Tibet Pageant, and has continued annually since.
The application for the pageant is still open and interested contestants from the Indian Himalayan region can apply online. The last date of online application is 31 July.
The winner will be given a cash prize of one lakh rupees (100,000), while 50,000 and 25,000 rupees for first and second runner-up respectively.
In 2014, Jyoti Dogra from Dharamshala was crowned Miss Himalaya. Incidentally the 2014 winner’s cash prize of Rs 1 lakh was sponsored by Arunachal Pradesh’s Tourism Minister Pema Khandu.
The Pageant will bring on one stage women from the entire Himalayan region, from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) spreads throughout 10 states including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, as well as the hill regions of two states, Assam and West Bengal. Contestants from Bhutan and Nepal are also invited to participate in the Pageant.
