Bhagsu Nag lass wins Miss Himalaya Pageant

In a modest two-hour show, the Miss Himalaya Pageant 2014 concluded with Jyoti Dogra, 22, from Bhagsu Nag, declared the winner on late Sunday night.

The student of MSc in Environmental Sciences at the Central University in Shapur won the title and a prize of one lakh (100,000) rupees.

Shikha Sharma, a 20-year-old student doing her BA, was declared the First Runner-up, while Dawa Dema, 22, pursuing management studies in Chandigarh, clinched the Second Runner-up position at the contest.

The five rounds of the competition were judged over two days by Dr Charu Sharma, an Associate Professor at the Department of English, Government College Dharamshala, and Ms Rashmi Nag, a painter, creative artist, and social activist.

Pema Khandu, Tourism and Water resource minister of Arunachal Pradesh, sponsored the first prize. The second prize was sponsored by a Japanese organisation Rainbow Children, and the third prize came from the United Nations for a Free Tibet (UNFFT).

Jyoti stood ahead of the rest of the contestants with her eloquent speech and interview. In the Interview Round, to the judge’s question of what is success in life, Jyoti said: It’s not the amount of money that measures success, but the knowledge, the sense of sharing, and satisfaction one has with what they do.

The show was emceed by Rinzen Chodon, and local artistes Chondhen, Tsona Tennor, Thinley, the Himalayan Band, and three child artistes entertained the audience in between the rounds.

Miss Himalaya Pageant is aimed to empower the young women from the Himalayan region, and to celebrate the peace-loving people, their unique culture, and the mighty and majestic Himalayas.

Director Lobsang Wangyal announced that the team will start working on the next year’s pageant earlier so that there could be more contestants from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.
