I am proud to have the honour of presenting five beautiful young women participating in the Miss Himalaya Pageant: for peace and environment.

Miss Himalaya Pageant is a way to celebrate the mighty and majestic Himalaya, the peace-loving people and their unique culture, and the pristine environment around the Himalayan mountain range. The pageant will not only provide an opportunity for young women, but will also foster friendship and understanding among the people in the region.

The pageant will also provide an opportunity to study and assess the vulnerability of the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.

We, the people on this side of the Himalaya, are aware of the fate of the people on the other side, where more than 50 people have self-immolated seeking freedom. We stand in solidarity with them and support in their quest for freedom.

I was not able to get any sponsors for the pageant. A few of my friends made some contributions towards the event. I still hope that some generous person may come forward.

There will be four rounds of competition to appraise the contestants’ talents, confidence and intelligence. The finale will be held on the 13th of this month. The winner will receive one lakh rupees (100,000.00 rupees). The first runner-up will receive 50,000.00 rupees and the second runner-up 25,000.00.

Miss Himalaya Pageant was conceived in early 2010. The domain misshimalaya.com was registered in February of that year. The planning and work started soon after that. The pageant will be an annual event, with the venue changed to different Himalayan towns and cities. It will be produced in collaboration with local producers.

On both the days the show will be held at Tipa at 6pm. Tickets will be available at the door. The show on Friday, 12 October, the ticket will cost 100 rupees. There will be only 450 seats on Friday night. On Saturday, 13 October, finale night, the ticket will cost 150 rupees.

11 October: Press conference at 11am. Journalists will be notified of the venue.
12 October: Talent round
13 October:
  1. Introduction round
  2. Traditional costume round
  3. Interview round
  4. Coronation ceremony and awards presentation

Hope you will all enjoy the show.
