Background of the Pageant

  1. What is the purpose of the Miss Himalaya Pageant?
    Miss Himalaya Pageant brings beautiful women from the entire Himalayan region onto one platform to celebrate the beautiful cultures, people, and nature of the Himalayan region.
  2. When was the first Miss Himalaya Pageant held?
    The inaugural Pageant was held in Dharamshala in October of 2012, with the finale on 13 October 2012 at Tipa, McLeod Ganj.

The Next Pageant: 2021

  1. The next Miss Himalaya Pageant will be held in October 2021. The participants will reach the venue a few days before for preparation and rehearsals. The application will be online from 1 May through 30 June 2021. –>

Miss Himalaya Global

  1. What is Miss Himalaya Global?
    The first Miss Himalaya Global is being planned. It will be produced by Lobsang Wangyal Productions in partnership with another events producer. There is a vibrant Himalayan community in the US, particularly in New York City. We came up with this Pageant to provide a platform to the young Himalayan women there, as well as to bring the wordlwide Himalayan community together. Women from the Himalayas (India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet) may apply to the Miss Himalaya Global Pageant.

Qualifications and Application

  1. Who can participate in the Miss Himalaya Pageant?
    Women from all Himalayan cultures, from Ladakh in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the East will be welcome to participate in the event. Women from all ethnic groups (Ladakhi, Lahuli, Spiti Bhotia, Kinnauri, Tibetan, Nepalese, Tamang, Gurung, Sherpa, Sikkimese, Bhutia, Lepcha, Bhutanese, Monpas, and all others) will be eligible.
  2. The criteria to participate in the Pageant are:
    1. Applicants should be born to parents of Himalayan cultural background.
    2. Between 17 and 25 years of age.
    3. Minimum 165 cm in height.
    4. Unmarried and not having given birth.
    5. Entry fee: An entry fee is required as a sign of good faith — Rs. 1,000 (India, Nepal, Bhutan). Your application will not be considered until receipt of your entry fee, which must be transferred to the Director Lobsang Wangyal by 10 August 2019 to Account no: 10219842549, State Bank of India, IFSC Code: SBIN 0004250.
    6. Participants will bear their own travelling expenses to and from McLeod Ganj. Food, accommodation and local travel in McLeod Ganj will be provided by Miss Himalaya Pageant.
  3. Why are these criteria so strong?
    The winner of the Miss Himalaya Pageant will be competing in world beauty pageants. Therefore we have to set our criteria to the same as theirs, or our Miss Himalaya will not qualify for them.
  4. What are the terms and conditions for being part of the Pageant?

  5. How and where is the application submitted?
    The application will be online from 1 May through 30 June 2021.
  6. What should the applicants submit to participate?
    The applicant is required to submit a certificate of date of birth, a proof of Himalayan heritage, and two close-up and two full-length photos. These must be uploaded through the application form.
  7. Is there an entry fee?
    Yes. Please see the Criteria.

The Competition

  1. Is there any training provided prior to the Pageant?
    Yes, there are a few days of training and rehearsals before the competition rounds.
  2. How many rounds are there?
    The Pageant has five competition rounds held over two days. Talk and Talent rounds are held on Day one, and the remaining three rounds of Introduction, Traditional costume, and Interview are held on the finale night on Day two.
  3. Who provides the clothing and other costumes for the competition?
    The contestants bring their own clothing and costumes.
  4. What does the winner win in the Pageant?
    The title Miss Himalaya Pageant and a cash prize of one lakh rupees (Rs 100,000). In addition, the winner makes guest appearances at festivals and events.

The Future of the Pageant

  1. Will the Miss Himalaya Pageant be held annually?
    Yes, it will be held annually except in case of emergency or unless confronted with formidable circumstances.
  2. Are there plans to hold the Pageant in other places?
    Yes. This will depend on sponsorship.
